The Total Money Makeover...Overisel

Many of you know that getting our money closet cleaned out has changed our lives. It has even made this upcoming year in Guatemala possible. After leading 2 groups of people through the Total Money Makeover (TMMO) book at our church I am ready for the next step: passing on the things we have learned. I am hoping through this posting and many in the future that what you have learned can be shared with many. So if you have had a Total Money Makeover or have had your lives changed by the process, I would love you to leave a comment here. Share with us what you did, or what you've learned, or the blessings God has given you now that you have got your finances in order (or are working on getting them in order). If you are interested in more info on Dave Ramsey or TMMO click on the weblink in our Family Links section. If you have more questions leave comments and I can post more things in the future. Keep living like no one else...so someday you can live like no one else. God Bless!

Prayer Update-May 21 (ish)

Dear Prayer Team:

Keep praying! God is so good!

Thanksgivings: King David went in, took his place before God, and prayed: "Who am I, my Master GOD, and what is my family, that you have brought me to this place in life?...What can I possibly say in the face of all this? You know me, Master GOD, just as I am. You've done all this not because of who I am but because of who you are--out of your very heart!--but you've let me in on it. This is what makes you so great, Master GOD! There is none like you, no God but you, nothing compares with what we've heard with our own ears. 2 Samuel 7:16-22 (excerpts from The Message)
1. Thanksgiving that Mom Klanderman's surgery went well yesterday. Answered prayers...God you are awesome!
2. For Maya & her amazing Kindergarten year. Thanks, God, for Mrs. "Z"weering, Mrs. "W"edeven & all her teachers & helpers & the things you teach her daily. (Next week Lily.)
3. For 32 children who have given their time & energy to learn "Roamin' through Romans". Kids, you are such a blessing. Thanks God for your praises sung from your children's lips.
4. For a great ending to so many things--Sunday School (Genesis class/The Total Money Makeover class, Promised Land, choirs, kids classes), Revolution Service, Graduation tonight, Field Trips and other school activities, Ballet on the 7th, "Roamin' through Romans" on the 1st--which also leads to great beginnings in so many ways! Thanks God for what has been & what will be. Thanks for this moment right now...help us to use it always & only to your glory!

Requests: David prayed desperately to God for the little boy. He fasted, wouldn't go out, and slept on the floor...."Yes" (the servants) answered "He's dead." David got up from the floor, washed his face and combed his hair, put on a fresh change of clothes, then went into the sanctuary and worshiped..."While the child was alive," he said, " I fasted and wept, thinking GOD might have mercy on me and the child would live." 2 Samuel 12:16-22 (excerpts from The Message)
1. For Maya & her school year in Guatemala. Help her to make new friends and continue to enjoy learning about what God has made.
2. For Aaron, as he finishes up with the familiar and anticipates the new. God...how you bless! Give strength & energy for what lies ahead
3. Pray for God's plans for our home to be laid out before us in His time. Give wisdom as boxes are packed and storage begins.
4. Pray for Aaron's Mom, Gail Klanderman, as she has 2 weeks of down time here after her surgery. Pray for comfort from the painful healing, and patience as God heals her shoulder.
6. Pray for Amy's sister Mendy, & her husband Steve, their children Thatcher (T-man) and Baby Pate (due June 20) as Steve flies out to the state of Washington this weekend to interview at Tall Timbers, a Christian camp, for a grounds/house-keeping position. Pray for safety, for the person God has prepared for this position to be found, and for God's will to be worked out in all it's perfection in His time. We lay it all at your feet, God. We are your people, the sheep of your pasture. Lead us where you would have us.

At His feet,

Aaron, Amy, Caden, Maya & Lily Klanderman

Prayer Update-May 14 (or 18)

Dear Prayer Team:

Another Wednesday here and gone. Next week is our June newsletter already. Hope this finds you well. Know you are being prayed for!

Thanksgivings: I was unsure of how to go about this, and felt totally inadequate--I was scared to death, if you want the truth of it--and so nothing I said could have impressed you or anyone else. But the Message came through anyway. God's spirit and God's power did it...1 Corinthians 2:3-5 (The Message)
1. For an amazing garage sale. (Thanks for your donations, your patronage, & your prayers!)
2. For Caden & his amazing 2nd grade year. Thanks, God, for Mrs. Koopman & all his teachers & the things you teach him daily. (Next week Maya.)
3. For field trips. Thanks for opportunities to learn & grow in this unique "school" experience with friends & students.
4. For Amy's brother, Chad, who returned safely from Peru.
5. For the opportunity to renew old friendships via the internet in the midst of going through boxes of the past.

Requests: Isaiah's question, "Is there anyone around who knows God's Spirit, anyone who knows what he is doing?" has been answered: Christ knows, and we have Christ's Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:16 (The Message)
1. For Caden & his school year in Guatemala. Help him to make new friends and continue to enjoy learning about God's creation.
2. For Aaron & Amy, as it is weird not to be involved with all the planning for next year's curriculum at school and church. Pray that we can lay it at God's feet confident that those who God calls will answer "Here am I, send me" (Isa 6:8).
3. Pray for God's plans for our home to be laid out before us in His time.
4. Now that things are purged from our home, all that's left must be reorganized. Pray for clear minds as we sort & store.
5. Pray for Aaron's Mom, Gail Klanderman, as she has surgery this coming week to repair a torn rotator cuff. Pray for a successful surgery and comfort & healing in the weeks to follow.
6. Pray for Amy's sister Mendy, & her husband Steve, their children Thatcher (T-man) and Baby Pate (appearing this June at a hospital near us) as they continue seeking God's will for their lives and what opportunities that may lead to. God, you are so much bigger than all of us. Help us each to know your will through the prompting of your Holy Spirit and give us the courage to follow it.

At His feet,

Aaron, Amy, Caden, Maya & Lily Klanderman

Happy Mother's Day

During the night I woke up with some serious stomach issues. Aaron had had them the night before but we had attributed that to what we'd had for supper. Apparently it was more. So on this rainy Mother's Day I'm sticking near a bathroom. Not quite what I had planned. Maya is singing this morning with her choir at church and I am so bummed to miss it. Aaron will fill me in I'm sure and it should be quite a restful day. Maya painted a flower pot for me and made some cute little button flowers for it. Caden made a special card for me all about how much he loves me and coupons for tasks around the house (one says that he will help me with dishes for the whole year in Guatemala). Aaron made me a more than precious card and got me a copy of Mansfield Park which I can't wait to dig into. I got to tell my mom I love her, and that doesn't happen as much as it should. Our moms are some terrific women. They gave us firm guidelines between right and wrong that have served us well. They cared for us just enough and let us go just enough and we love both of you so much. Thanks and may God continue to bless you. Best wishes to each of you on Mother's day. May it be blessed in many ways. Thanks, God, for my family and help me to cherish each moment and use it to the best of my ability. At His feet, Amy

Countdown continues...

Bark we've barked in the past week: 10 yards...that's 270 square feet so you don't have to do the math.
Bark needed to bark our entire yard: 10 1/2 yards....we were a little short but under the pine trees who can really tell!
Rooms left to be sorted for the garage sale: none...hallelujah!
Items which need to be priced tomorrow: About a million...but official number will not be in until tomorrow.
Number of garage sales I will probably ever have again: ZERO!
Knowing that God will make our nothing into more than enough: priceless!

Prayer Update-May 7 (or 8)

Dear Prayer Team:

Kind of a late one tonight team...I guess technically it's not Wednesday anymore! Getting ready for our garage sale this weekend...was heading for bed and realized it had been Wednesday today. Know you are in our prayers & thanks for yours.

Thanksgivings:
The Spirit of God entered David like a rush of wind, God vitally empowering him for the rest of his life. 1 Samuel 16:13 (The Message)
1. For a barked yard and a de-cluttered house...Hallelujah!
2. For Caden & his amazing growth in reading comprehension. Pray that his interest in the Scripture continues growing daily. (Next week Maya.)
3. For the celebration of the end of so many things...a little bittersweet this year. Goodbyes, even for a short time, are hard but God is good!
4. For a great forecast for our garage sale this weekend. Go God!
5. For a home in Guatemala. Final arrangements are being made soon this week. More info in our June newsletter. Thank God for Mr. Dave Osborn and pray for him as he begins the exciting work of being a landlord for short-termers like us.

Requests: David answered (Goliath) "You come at me with sword and spear and battle ax. I come at you in the name of God-of-the-Angel-Armies...the whole earth will know that there is an extraordinary God in Israel...The battle belongs to God--he's handing you to us on a platter. 1 Samuel 17:45-47
1. For Caden & his adjustment to life in Guatemala. Pray for good friends and safety in all the new explorations and experiences.
2. For Amy, as the next two weeks are going to be very intensive for preparation for the children's musical on June 1. Pray for great attendance and attention by the kids and for this hard work to bring Glory to God our Father above all else.
3. Continue praying for our home to be used as God wants. We are not currently seeking renters but may if there are no other situations that work out by the beginning of June. God has a plan and it is all in his timing.
4. For final preparations for our garage sale and for people to come. And for us to realize that whatever God blesses us with is (as always) more than enough.
5. For each of us to put on our Holy "armor and take one in the chest"...(great line from my new favorite Go Fish song). God, help us to realize you are the Almighty and you will gird us with all that we need to face the challenges ahead this week. Amen!

At His feet,

Aaron, Amy, Caden, Maya & Lily Klanderman
